Some Interesting Footwear

For those of you who are thinking of becoming a fashion designer and don't think math will be relevant to your future career choice - Think again! Designer Andreia Chaves uses several geometric designs to create fashion footwear. Each of the designs on her website have to be carefully designed so as to allow the wearer to be able to realistically walk in them.

  1. This is a great website for students that struggle with mathematics and excel in another content area. I have never seen or heard of these types of shoes but the design is remarkable. The one design with all triangles had to of been very cleverly designed becasue I am not sure how it hold together. haha

  2. This seems like a really good website to help students think outside the box with geometry. I saw someone else wrote, and I agree that it would be cool to have students design their own shoe as part of a geometry unit.

  3. This is a great website to pull in students with artistic interests. You will get their attention with the great designs, and then get them thinking about how math is connected in all of them.

  4. Wow. I'd love to see the math that went into those shoes. I'd be more interested to see someone actually wearing them!

  5. This is a really nice way of showing student how math applied to their everyday lives. Just think - math not only goes into these shoes, but ALL shoes!

  6. Wow. That website shows an incredibly realistic way to use geometry (and math) in the real world. And it shows how to use it to get money! By using only geometric shapes in a design like that forces the designer to become intimately familiar with the shape and way the shapes fit together, a tough task. Also, the obscurity of the actual items shows how wide the variety of math uses are.
