Just One More Game, Mom!

So the sudoku craze has died down significantly since coming over to the U.S. from Japan. One derivation of sudoku that is gaining popularity is called KenKen, or kendoku. The layout is similar to sudoku in that there is a grid of numbers to be filled in, but other than that the rules are very different.

Check out this website offering free KenKen puzzles and try your hand at the game:

  1. This was a really cool game that although fun, requires students to develop and reinforce basic math skills that often are forgoten in these days of calculators on cell phones. I like the added twist of having to use the cages to satisfy the number and operations. This would really help kids who enjoy a challenge and are competitive

  4. This is such a great tool to use for teaching the kids in a fun and interactive way. It teaches them problem solving skills similarly to ho sudoku does. Nice addition to your blog.

  5. I have seen this before, and while I am a wiz at sudoku, I cannot do these puzzles for the life of me. But it really will show students how to use math, but I feel like you'd have to have a certain command of math before being able to do these puzzles (I'm not even confident of my ability to do them). I would be interested to see how well students can do these in the classroom, it looks like a good activity.
